I am a big fan of entrepreneurial mommies! Mommies who not only raise their children with the utmost love and support, but who also use their time and talents to help with the financial stresses that come with growing a family. Below I interviewed a fantastic entrepreneurial mommy, Danica Bagioli! If you’re interested in earning money while staying at home with your little ones, enjoy the question and answer session below. For any additional questions, feel free to post them in the comments.
Who is Danica?
Danica Bagioli is not only a stay at home mommy of two beautiful little boys, but also a successful Jamberry consultant! She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Arizona State University and worked for over 10 years as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, and more recently a supervisor at a corporate fitness and wellness center. She has been active and into weight training and swimming since high school, so it was a surprise to everyone when she joined Jamberry! She says “Hey, just because I am a gym rat doesn’t mean I don’t like looking feminine. I just didn’t think pretty nails were an indulgence I could have…..until Jamberry.”
What is Jamberry Nails and why did you join them as a consultant?
Jamberry is a direct sales company that specializes in nail wraps – heat activated adhesives that can be applied at home for professional- and unique-looking manicures and pedicures. They also have lacquers, a new gel system, and a variety of hand and nail care products. They even have a multivitamin! I joined after trying some free samples and loved that I could immediately get on with life after application, which for me means chasing my boys, exercising, playing at the beach, crafting, sewing, and cooking! I knew I’d be buying these long-term and realized the most economical option was to join as a consultant and get the discount!
How did you find out about Jamberry Nails initially?
I found out about Jamberry when a friend invited me to her Facebook party. I had no idea what Jamberry was (and didn’t really care, to be honest!), but I was curious to see what a virtual sales party looked like. Once I peeked through the catalog I fell in love, and it was all over from there!
How long have you been a consultant for Jamberry Nails?
I joined Jamberry in April of this year (2015), only weeks after I attended my first party! I’m coming up on 6 months this October.
The Consultant Kit costs $99 (US), but with shipping and tax it comes out to about $120. However, you can host a party before joining and if the sales reach $250 you can use a portion of your rewards to offset the kit cost!
How long did it take you to start making a profit?
I made the price of my kit back at my first party, plus a little extra (the company gives monthly bonuses for earning more $$, so you can earn up to 40% commission). I only had four people purchase from me; some consultants with a wider social circle would likely experience even greater sales at their launch party! At your debut/launch, you are both consultant and hostess, so you get all the rewards. I was able to make back my investment PLUS I got a lot of wraps to wear and give away as prizes at my parties. I am still using those rewards 6 months later for prizes, promos, and of course my own nails! I have reinvested almost all my profit back into my business. I don’t think everyone needs to take it to this level, but I am planning to be a consultant long-term, so investing in my business (marketing materials, inventory, Facebook ads, etc) is important to me.
How much have you earned in your most profitable month of sales?
Signing on as a consultant in the summer is tough, as I learned! Business wanes in most direct sales companies and picks up again in the Fall. That being said, my most profitable month brought me about $360 (I sold over $900, almost entirely from one, 2 hour party). I have 1-2 parties/month and thus far have run half of those as fundraisers. I’ve donated close to half my profits to charitable organizations, and kept the hostess rewards to improve my business. Like most direct sales companies, the more recruits you have, the greater the earning potential. My mentor – directly above me – never intended to have a team, but here she is with more than 10 of us and she has been able to make some large, necessary purchases this year for her family of 7!
How time consuming is the job of a consultant?
I’d say the bulk of the time spent with Jamberry – or likely any new direct sales venture- will be in the first few months as you learn the catalog, the products, and the company. Jamberry has a top-notch online “university” full of professional videos, in-depth party how-to, product q&a, and learning quizzes. I spent many hours in Jamberry U, and I also spent a lot of time applying and removing wraps, trying different combos, and figuring out tips and tricks for my customers. I also gathered a lot of party games, images, and outlines from my fellow consultants on Facebook. The beauty of it is the company and consultants have everything there for you, so you needn’t reinvent the wheel! They are very motivated to see you succeed, so if you can plug through those first months, it will pay off. Long story short – I spent about 2-3 hours/day initially learning about Jamberry one month before my first party. I now spend about 1-2 hours/day MAX on Jamberry.
Can you be a stay at home mommy and a successful consultant for Jamberry Nails?
Yes, I definitely think this is something you can have success at while raising the kiddos! You set your own schedule, so for me that means nap time and bed time for the bulk of my work. It’s just a matter of being focused during “office hours” and not falling into a social media abyss. Otherwise – well, you know if you are friends with me on Facebook – I am living life and enjoying my husband and kids!
What are the benefits of being a Jamberry Nails consultant compared to other sales businesses?
Now that I have been exposed to other DS (direct sales) companies, I think I’ve hit the jackpot with Jamberry. The company is very supportive and available to consultants, it allows us much more creative freedom with marketing and parties than other companies, and the product itself is so simple I don’t need to go about memorizing an encyclopedia of information! And hello – I get paid to have pretty nails! When people notice my nails, I hand them a business card or sample. No being pushy or in-your-face! It is also REALLY EASY to ship wraps, so I can be generous with prizes and samples. That just isn’t going to happen with books, cleaning supplies, tote bags, or whatever else other companies are selling! Plus I’m often able to waive shipping in my parties, which is great for everyone.
What tips would you have for other mommies interested in becoming a Jamberry Nails consultant?
My top tips for those considering taking the plunge would be: 1. Wear the wraps and perfect your application. Figure our your own style, tips, and tricks, and be honest and genuine with your customers about what works and what doesn’t. You will also enjoy tons of compliments on your nails, so never forget to bring your business card and samples with you! I keep mine in my Tula when I wear my baby! 2. To save time, I recommend using a program like CinchShare or Tiny Torch for online parties. I schedule all my Facebook party posts in advance and then just monitor comments and purchases. I am not tied to my phone or computer this way and have gone on several trips mid-party without anyone being the wiser!
