Carrying my baby for the first year of her life
How do you survive the first year of motherhood? How do you console a crying baby who misses the womb? How do you nurse on-the-go?
For me it was carrying my baby! I tried numerous different carriers and finally fell in love with a few. My baby is now almost two years old and we still use the Tula! Read more of why baby carrying is a great option if you’re able to do it!
What are the benefits of carrying your baby?
My baby girl Sue absolutely loved being carried in a baby carrier. The quickest way I could get her to sleep was to strap her on me and nurse her. I would go for a walk outside to get some fresh air and before I could get to the sidewalk she would already be asleep. It was wonderful! I felt like I found a shortcut to this baby thing! Here are the benefits I’ve discovered as a first time mommy to baby wearing.
Benefits of carrying your baby:
- Nursing on the go. Super easy and convenient once you get the hang of it!
- Keeps baby close and safe when your body is all they have known for 9 months.
- Allows you to get a few things done. Such as folding laundry, making lunch, and other light chores.
- Gives you a bit of exercise to get the pregnancy weight off.
- Who likes to lug a stroller and baby car seat around everywhere? It is super convenient and light.
- Daddy can participate too.
- Puts baby to sleep within minutes!
Infantino Baby Carrier
Which baby carriers work well?
I’ve used multiple carriers with Sue as she has grown up. The first one I used and loved was the Infantino Flip Front 2 Back Carrier. It is inexpensive and very versatile. It is also super easy to adjust and I could easily lower Sue a few inches so she could breastfeed easily while I carried her. It is also very light weight and my husband, mother, father and brother all were able to use it with Sue!
I also used the Infantino Sash Mei Tai Carrier. I enjoyed it as it was soft and portable, but took a bit longer to wrap around me and was harder to adjust. It did support Sue very well!
And then my most loved carrier is the Ergobaby Original Baby Carrier. I used it for months before I invested in a Tula as Sue was getting too big for it. The Ergobaby can do both a front and back carry, and even has a pocket for an extra diaper or a pacy.
The little attached hood was wonderful for privacy when she nursed or when putting her to sleep to block out light. I love it so much I bought one for my sister and convinced my cousin to get one too!
My favorite baby carrier!
And finally, the carrier I can still use and the one which my husband likes the most, the Tula Ergonomic Toddler Carrier. It has all the benefits of the Ergobaby but can go up to a higher weight for baby. It is also more supportive with a wider hip band and thicker shoulder padding. It does not have a pocket which I miss, but it works so well I didn’t mind! It was my go to for traveling, bike riding, shopping, cleaning the house, putting Sue to sleep, calming Sue down, enjoying a party while nursing baby, the list is endless!
